The announcer has no regard for the state of play on the pitch and should really be classed as an external influence on play. It's to loud and unnecesary, use your bloody mobiles it's not 1950!

Re: Mr *****ing Moon

When I used to sit in the Bobby Moore upper the Mr Moon announcements coincided with a securicor/group 4 type cash van arriving & leaving, as in Mr Moon arrived as the cash van drove through the gates & left the building as it drove back on to the main road.. Really can't see any benefit from announcing to the whole stadium + the surrounding area this though, especially as presumably the two or three key people interested in this info would have mobile phones on them, surely a text or what's app message would suffice these days....

There's even been a book written about him:
Mr Moon Has Left the Stadium: Confessions of a Matchday Announcer Paperback – 18 Aug 2011 - by Jeremy Nicholas.

Perhaps a chorus of "Is there a fire drill?" would be appropriate next time he gets a mention.

The only thing I find odd about it is that a code phrase is used to avoid a panic and a rush for the exits.
But if almost everyone in the stadium knows that a particular code phrase means there might be a fire it's completely redundant.

No it doesn't - maybe once or twice a season.
I've heard the announcement at Blackburn (I think). That one was Mr Sands.
I remember thinking 'I wonder if he is mates with Mr Moon'

Re: Mr *****ing Moon

The message that he is in the building is to all stewards to be prepared that an evacuation may be required.
The message that he has left is letting them know they can stand down.
Not all stewards have radios or ear pieces.
When a smoke detector goes off they have a limited amount of time to investigate to confirm if it is a real fire or not. If a steward with a radio doesn't get to the scene in that time then the message goes out. Once he gets there and messages the control room that it is a false alarm then the call is cancelled.
Every other ground will have a similar code and similar procedure.
It hardly ever happens so it is no surprise that you don't hear it at other grounds.

It's letting those that need to know that Securicor etc... are there picking up the money. This is what I've been told anyway, but as another poster said.......what money?
Just amazed no one has tried to nick the money seeing as it's announced.

Mr Moon has been used for the twenty five years that I've been to the Boleyn. There was even an article about it in the match day programme once, so I don't know why it's even being discussed.
Maybe I'm just an old cunt, maybe you're all new breed cunts.
